BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INGLEWOOD FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB
1873 – Social matches being played by the ‘Inglewood Cricket and Football Club’
1876 – Inglewood Football Club plays matches against Wedderburn and Serpentine.
- Home matches are played at Inglewood Cricket Ground in the Public Park (present day Golf Course)
– Club officially formed on June 1st at a meeting at the Empire State Hotel.
1877 – Inglewood is a founding member of the Victorian Football Association (now known as the VFL), predecessor of the AFL. The other foundation members are Albert Park, Ballarat, Barwon, Beechworth, Carlton, Castlemaine, Geelong, Hotham (Nth Melbourne), Melbourne, Rochester, and St Kilda
- Inglewood hosts matches against Melbourne FC in 1877 and Carlton FC in 1879
- Club colours are Blue and Red
- 1877-1880 Club President is Maurice Blackburn Snr, father of Maurice Blackburn of Maurice Blackburn Lawyers
1893 – The club relocates to the Inglewood Recreation Reserve (‘Old Rec’, corner of Heales and Morrow Streets)
1895 – Dunolly Electorate competition held between Inglewood, Dunolly, Tarnagulla, Newbridge and Bealiba. Inglewood wins the premiership trophy donated by Mr Duggan, MP, after Dunolly fail to show up for the final
1903 – Loddon Valley Football League formed, Inglewood premiers
1908 – Inglewood, Bridgewater, Wedderburn and Korong Vale form the Korong District Central Association, Inglewood premiers over Korong Vale
1909 - Club colours changed to Blue and White (vertical stripes)
1910-1912 – Inglewood appears in 3 consecutive Grand Finals, winning in 1910 and 1912. The 1910 team includes Percy Martyn, who would have a decorated career with Richmond, St Kilda and Essendon, as well as several Tasmanian and Bendigo league teams
1921 – Guernsey changed to Navy Blue
1922 – Inglewood’s Val Marchesi commences VFL career with Geelong. He would later play for Essendon
1923-1930 – Inglewood plays in 6 of 8 grand finals, winning 5 premierships.
1935 – Inglewood signs former Geelong star Edward ‘Carji’ Greeves as coach. Greeves was the first winner of the Brownlow Medal in 1924. His brother, Colin, was captain of the Inglewood team from 1930-1933, and his father Edward Greeves Snr, also a former VFL player with Geelong, was Inglewood Club President in 1933.
1936 – Increasing cost of travel during the Depression results in a new competition being formed consisting of Inglewood Stars (light blue), Inglewood Rovers ( yellow & black), Serpentine and Rheola, known as the Inglewood Football Association
1937 – Inglewood rejoins the Korong Central League
1938 – Inglewood rejoins the Loddon Valley Football League
1940 - Inglewood rejoins the Korong Central League (Loddon Valley League in Recess due to WWII). Korong Central League discontinued mid-season
1945 - Loddon Valley Football League reformed
1946 – Inglewood premiers
1947 – Guernsey changed to Royal Blue with White ‘V’
1950 – Inglewood and Serpentine Basketball (Netball) teams play twice as curtain- raisers to football
1951 – Loddon Valley Basketball (Netball) Association formed. Inglewood Premiers 1951 and 1952
1951 – Club moves to the newly established Community Sports Centre (current ground)
1951-1958 – Inglewood plays in 7 of 8 Grand Finals, winning 5 Premierships
1955-56 – Basketball Team claim successive premierships being undefeated for two straight seasons
1959 – Junior competition added to LVFL
1963 – Junior Basketball competition formed (15 & Under, later becoming 17 & Under)
1970 – Name changed from basketball to netball, B Grade added to competition. Reserves competition added to LVFL
1970-73 –Inglewood Juniors win 4 flags in a row under coach Graham Roberts
1971 – Inglewood Premiers and first Champion Team (undefeated) in Loddon Valley Football League history
1972 – C Grade added to basketball competition
1973 – Reserves premiers
1976 – Guernsey changed to Navy Blue and White ‘IFC’ monogram, Reserves Premiers.
1977 – A Grade Premiers.
1981 – A Grade Premiers
1986 – After consecutive Grand Final losses, Inglewood defeats Bridgewater to win its most recent premiership
1987 – A Grade Premiers
1994 – Inglewood complete the trifecta of A, B & C Grade premierships.
2001 – Inglewood celebrates 125 years of football with reunions, Anniversary Dinner and naming of a Team of the Century
2003 – Club record score of 57.23 (365) vs Dunolly 3.1 (19)
2005 – Football and Netball Clubs amalgamate to form Inglewood Football Netball Club
2007 – Senior football 51 game winless streak is broken with victory over Marong in Round 4
2012 – C Reserve added to netball competition
2013 – Guernsey changed to Navy Blue with White ‘V’
2015 - Junior football competition changed to Under 18s
2016 - 140 Years Celebrations held with premiership reunions, heritage guernsey, Gala Dinner and the naming of a Netball All-Stars Team
2019 - 13 & Under grade added to netball competition
2020 - Season abandoned due to Covid-19 Pandemic
2023 - Loddon Valley Football Netball League Under 18s competition discontinued. Inglewood Under 18s join new Central Victorian Football League competition
2024 - LVFNL Under 18s competition resumes​
